The Axis 1.2 Program is part of Greece’s National Satellite Space Project, developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and implemented with ICEYE. This strategic initiative focuses on building a sovereign Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) observation system to enhance Greece’s capabilities in monitoring and responding to environmental and national challenges. Through Axis 1.2, Greece will gain access to ICEYE’s global SAR constellation while establishing its own satellites and ground infrastructure locally. The program supports applications such as flood mapping, wildfire and forest damage assessment, coastal and maritime monitoring, and disaster management, ensuring persistent, all-weather, day-and-night observability of the Greek territory. With satellite production and data processing capacity being developed within Greece, Axis 1.2 represents a major step toward national autonomy in Earth Observation and SAR technology.
